Frank

Frank was not a good guy.

My first introduction to Frank was through a very distant cousin, Catherine. She filed F&B (fornication and bastardy) charges against him about 1899 or so. Come to find out (much later) he also impregnated another distant cousin about 8 years earlier. While I found the cousin, I haven't found any information about the baby. Apparently there was at least one more F charge against him. His idea of resolving the 'problem' was to pay the girl(s) $100 and be done with her/them and the baby(ies).

He must have been fairly charming.

One of the girls wanted more than money. I believe it was Catherine who wanted marriage as she wanted her baby to have a legitimate father. He refused.

Later he tried his charms on Margaret, another distant cousin, and she, with the help of her landlord (the landlord is a distant cousin to me) tried to kindly reject him. Frank had the mindset if he couldn't have her, no one could. He murdered her and the landlord. He injured the landlord's wife.

He ended up with the death penalty and was hung at the age of 26.

Floyd and Maggie

Floyd and Maggie made a baby girl together and married a couple of months after the baby was born in 1908. They were still together in 1910 and her parents lived with them. By 1914 Floyd has another baby on the way with Mabel. Baby due in April. He files for divorce from Maggie on grounds of desertion and divorce is granted in March. He marries the new baby's mother. They stay married. Maggie never remarried and eventually started using her maiden name. The baby girl grew up with her mother. She knew who her father was as he is mentioned in her obituary, but her brothers from his second marriage were not named. She was not mentioned in their obituaries or in her father's obit. Her father was listed in her obituary. Who got the last laugh? Floyd and Maggie's daughter. Maggie died after Floyd. On Maggie's death certificate her daughter listed her mother as married. To Floyd. Even though they were divorced. And he died five years earlier.

This is Charles who is probably about 12 in this picture.  Probably a school picture from Liberal, Missouri.  Possibly Excelior School. No idea of his last name.  Nothing written on back of picture.  If he belongs to your family send me a message through this blog.  Tell me what year you think he was born in.  You can have the picture if you convince me he is your family.  Don't wait too long.  I'm not keeping the picture forever.
